2024 National Weekly Tracking Poll – Week 1 Results

The top results find that Latinos are concerned about the cost of living and inflation, jobs and the economy, and the cost of housing.

SANTA MONICA, Calif., September 18, 2024–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Entravision, in partnership with AltaMed Health Services and BSP Research, has released the first set of findings from the 2024 National Latino Tracking Poll, providing unique, real-time data on findings its weekly roundup of Latino voters’ priorities. before the upcoming November elections. The top items in this week’s results were economic concerns, such as the cost of living, jobs and the economy, and being able to afford housing.

Key Results from Week 1:

Important Point: Quality of Life issues are important to Latino patients. When asked to name their top three points they would like to see leaders address, the top responses were:

  • Cost of Living and Inflation 57%

  • Jobs and the Economy 35%

  • Housing Cost/Purchasing Cost 28%

  • Abortion/Reproductive Rights 27%

  • Gun Violence 26%

  • Health care is 19%

  • Immigration Reform for current immigrants 19%

  • Border issues 18%

Hot public issues such as abortion, guns, immigration reform for current immigrants, and border policy filled the next section of important news.

Enthusiasm and Promotion: With seven weeks to go, the overall strength of participation is high. 87% of Latino voters indicate they will vote (74%) or probably (13%). Mean Motivation (scale 0-10) was 8.01.

However, the majority of Hispanic voters — 52% — have never contacted anyone, party, candidate, or any community/non-profit, to register or vote. While 68% of respondents felt they had enough knowledge to vote, 32% across the country felt they needed more information, which led to the need to communicate with voters. and parties become stronger.

Policy Action on Priority Issues:

  • 87% favor allowing Medicare to negotiate prescription drug prices.

  • 83% favor legislation to prevent price gouging.

  • 70% want a law guaranteeing access to abortion.

  • 69% want a path to citizenship for long-term undocumented immigrants.

  • 66% want to expand access to Medicare and Medicaid to Dreamers and DACA recipients.

  • 62% would ban assault rifles.

Health Care Concerns: Cost concerns ranked among Hispanic voters’ top concerns, and this included the cost of drugs. In addition to 87% of respondents favoring letting Medicare negotiate lower drug prices, when asked to identify their health problems:

  • 59% cited access to affordable and affordable services,

  • 42% said access to primary care, and

  • 34% said access to services in their communities.

  • Vice President Harris was the most liked of any politician in the country, with 60% viewing him favorably and 35% viewing him unfavorably.

  • The difference between the Vice President and the President suggests that this would be a very different election if the President were to persevere in his re-election bid.

  • Although VP candidates are often seen as having little impact on the presidential race, the 36-point gap between Governor Walz (+18) and Senator Vance (-18) is notable.

JOIN THE PARTY

When asked whether each political party is doing a good job of reaching Latinos, indifferent, or hostile, the results overwhelmingly favored Democrats. Half of all respondents thought Democrats did a good job, compared to just a third of Republicans. Conversely, while 14% thought Democrats were hostile, more than twice that number (29%) saw the GOP that way.

Among respondents who reported watching all or part of the debate on Tuesday, (9/10), 66% felt that Vice President Harris was successful in the debate, compared to 34% who believed that former President Trump won.

ELECTION CLAIMS

Harris leads Trump 55-33 (+22) with 12% reporting undecided or a preference for another candidate. It’s too early to tell how undecided voters will fare. Among voters who say they have made up their minds about the presidential race, the race stands at 63-37.

The overall congressional vote was 54-34 (+20) in favor of the Democratic nominee.

As the only weekly national poll that focuses primarily on Latino voters, this poll tracks the opinions of 500 registered Latino voters each week, providing an opinion of serious about voters’ concerns. Preliminary results, collected between September 11 and September 15, reveal key trends shaping Latino voter decisions. Respondents had the option of completing the survey in English or Spanish.
